Counselling and support
Sometimes the best thing you can do is seek support from someone who understands what it's like to not feel like yourself when you're pregnant or after having a baby - or what it's like to not be able to get pregnant, or a little of what it's like to lose a baby. It can be shocking to not feel joy or immediate love for your baby as you'd expected, or to be full of doubts, fears and anger.
All of these difficult thoughts and feelings can be a sign of something else going on - not because you are a failure or a bad mother. From sleep deprivation and exhaustion, to worry, fear, anxiety, panic attacks and trauma responses - sharing what's happening for you is the first step to understanding, not feeling alone, and building strategies for the life with your baby and family that you had hoped for.
